Solar Panels has been improve with virus

Viruses can help build better solar panels that capture and process more efficient solar energy into electrical energy. This has been demonstrated at a Research Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT for its acronym in English) that has used a type of virus to restructure the carbon nanotube solar panels and increase their efficiency by 30 percent, from 8 to 10 , 6 per cent.

That the efficiency of solar panels is still well below their potential is more than evident. What was not known so far is that something so small and is sometimes dangerous as a virus, could hold the key.

The virus called M13 coordinate gets rolled carbon nanotubes in graphene that make solar cells so that the electron transport more efficient and therefore produce more electricity. Basically, the M13 gets the two types of nanotubes (semiconductors and cables) that form the structure of solar cells, do not interfere with each other and impede the flow of electrons, but the structure becomes smooth.

Grätzel cells
Each virus controls between five and ten nanotubes, using about 300 proteins. In addition, viruses have been genetically modified to produce a layer of titanium dioxide, a key component in Grätzel cells, a type of structure they use this compound to improve electron transport.

Xiangnan Hyunjung Yi Dang, MIT students along with Professor Angela Belcher successfully tested this new virus in Grätzel cells, but explained that the technique could also be used for other types of solar cells, including organic.

The virus also solubilized nanotubes making them easier to incorporate the solar panels at room temperature, significantly reducing the manufacturing cost.

Movies on YouTube after a deal with Sony and Universal

The streaming video service YouTube would be close to allow users to watch movies on your site. Some of the largest companies in the industry, such as Sony Pictures Entertainment, Warner Brothers and Universal, will lend their productions for this project, which could begin this week or next.

The movie industry is finding new ways to distribute their content and prevent piracy affecting this sector. There are several initiatives in this regard, as the service offered by Apple and Netflix, a company with a strong position right now in the online video market. Even Facebook has reached an agreement with Warner to rent movies through the network.

However, the most visited site in streaming video on the Internet, YouTube, I still had some way to go, take some time despite offering movie rentals through its site. Now it seems that the platform gathers momentum in this market. According to information published in The Wrap, the Google website has reached agreements with Sony Pictures Entertainment, Warner Brothers and Universal to offer access to their productions.

Apart from these big companies, YouTube would have signed other agreements with more independent producers such as Lionsgate and Kino Lorber, sources close to the negotiations. In this way the site would be ready to launch its movie rental service this week or next.

The agreements will expand the catalog of movies on YouTube, making it a competitive service that can compete with the supply of systems like Apple or Netflix. The great mass of the platform gives users the ability to boost this sector site, supporting a new form of distribution for films.

According to The Wrap, other producers such as Paramount, Fox and Disney have rejected the agreement with YouTube to offer movies through the site. On the other hand, streaming video company has issued a statement after meeting the information published stating "We have been adding more and more titles strongly since we launched the YouTube movie rental for more than a year, and now we have thousands of titles available. Beyond that we do not comment on rumors or speculation. "
Renting movies on YouTube

YouTube videos usually have a short duration. It is a place where you can see larger productions, in fact they tend to be divided into several parts. In fact the platform has never promoted the movie rentals as such.

At present the company has seen the business niche, according to a source close to the deal, manager of one of the producers who signed: "We believe this begins with VOD (video on demand), but will be expanded to include sales over time. We are very excited because we are happy to see new participants in the transaction model rather than a subscription model. "

It is unclear how YouTube will charge for the rental of films, but behind it is a market of 130 million monthly users to monetize the new service.

The future of maps on the internet

There is no doubt that the map uncharted territory is man's best friend. To this end, Nokia has released a tool that promises to raise to the next level guidance systems on the web.

"Have you heard the news? The world is not flat, it's actually quite three dimensional. So what about online maps? are flat or three too?", published in the company's blog announcing the new product.

Easily accessible from mobile devices, Ovi Maps features 3D models of major cities around the world, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Miami, Toronto, Madrid, Prague, enabling the user to explore the three-dimensional view after installing a plug-in in your browser. http://maps.ovi.com/3d/index.html

The technology used to generate these maps requires each object captured from 100 different angles, then adds texture using an image processor.

Panic at playstation network.

Sony Network playtation fell, and while his desperate attempt to find out exactly responsible for why, the more than 70 million registered users is pulling their hairs watching the error messages that throw their PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 3. The case, which has already been a day of existence, seems to have roots in an attack by hackers and according to spokesmen at the disaster of entertainment, the problem may be one or two more days to resolve.
Users of the online service for Playstation 3 and Playstation Portable-eat breakfast or snacks according to the time zone, a few days with various error messages on gaming services, including streaming video provided by Sony through its platform . Angry at the situation and above all flooded out of frustration, users attended a show of indifference, because since Sony gave no sign of life for a long period, which ended several hours later with a notice more than obvious in blog: Sony PlayStation Network had fallen and services do not respond at the moment. Since Sony is urged patience and then verify and try to detect the cause of the problems may be suspected of an attack by hackers, the spokesmen announced that the network would remain closed for a day or two before servicing and return to players the field of play.

Successful quantum teleportation

A team of researchers from the University of Tokyo in Japan and the University of New South Wales in Australia, led by Noriyuki Lee, has succeeded in teleporting non-classical wave packets of light from one place to another. This, simply put, means that for the first time it has managed to send data from one site to another instantly, without using the "slow" classical photons are capable of exceeding the speed of light. According to the authors of the paper, the system could be used in the design of quantum computers faster and capable of delivering information securely and instantly.

For years, scientists looking for ways of making quantum teleportation provided by the laws of physics in a real device. The "small print" of quantum physics says that under certain conditions, it is possible to transfer information between two points instantly, without the limitations imposed by the speed of light. But one thing is that something is possible (or permitted by the laws governing the universe) and quite another to build an apparatus that becomes a reality. There have been several experiments, some surprising results, but it seems, have been researchers at the University of Tokyo in Japan along with the University of New South Wales in Australia, led by Noriyuki Lee, who have been successful in build what they call "a teleportation device bandwidth and zero dispersion."

The system could be used in the design of quantum computers faster. The system could be used in the design of quantum computers faster.

The results of this work have been published in the journal Science. Basically, what did these scientists was sent from point A to point B a number of quantum-level data expressed by photons. Obviously, the interesting thing about this is that these particles have been used in the same way that profit within an optical fiber, but quantum effects have been used with such strange names as "constraint", "photon subtraction" "entanglement" and "homodyne detection." The result has been a teleportation device capable of teleporting non-classical wave packets of light from one place to another making for the first time to transfer all the information without losing any fragments in the process. In this experiment, the points of departure and arrival (A and B) were relatively close, but the theory behind all this nonsense technological forecast is possible to do the same between any two points of the Universe.

"A teleportation device capable of sending non-classical wave packets of light from one place to another without losing any fragment."

Needless to say that an accomplishment like this, become a commercial device, change the way we communicate. The ability to instantly transfer data (or whatever it is, in a time equal to zero) implies that we may, for example, receive all our emails in a flash, download 1TB of data in the same time, or any else you can think of. But there are some more subtle implications. If this technology becomes part of microprocessors, for example, its processing speed would also increase dramatically, because the signals that travel through it could get from one end to another device in no time. According to the authors of this paper, the system used could be used to design quantum computers really amazing features.

Five tips and tricks for creating messages of 140 characters on Twitter ... and not die trying

If what you have to say takes more than 140 characters, do not say it on Twitter. Open a blog, go to Facebook, talk in person. If you still can believe your message is essential for mankind uses Twitlonger or Deckly, few times a month. A sensible limit may be 5 tweets per month. But still it is best that you can learn to summarize, to use short, back to basics. Express your ideas in 140 characters is more challenging and fun, but not everything. If you like writing and your ideas are complex, many people would love to read you your new WordPress blog, it's time to try. And while you're on Twitter, you can follow these tips and write in 140 characters or less.

1.

Use a shortening of URLs to share a link. It is one of the best ways to save space in a tweet. Any links you share on Twitter should pass through to a shortening of directions, in theory the same Twitter could do it, but in the end is never fully integrated with the tool, not what is the reason. The best are Bit.ly, Ow.ly, and Cli.gs. Goo.gl For more information visit the Wikipedia URL shortening
2.

Use synonyms and abbreviations. There are many opportunities in which you can change a single word by a synonym that takes up less characters. For example, the word "productivity" in some cases can be replaced with "performance," spent 13 characters to 11. When using abbreviations savings is even greater characters. An example might be to use U.S. or USA instead of United States. It is important that you use common sense and do not cut words tweets filled with the ominous language or SMS. You can use a 1 x 2 x two, x and by, equal =, + x again, and so on and so on.
3.

Be simple. In a tweet is always reflect a single idea. Be direct, bluntly, not things too much ornamentation. Not necessary (although it helps) that includes the question say something original in the tweet, it usually appears in the right leg, or a link that says "in response." No need to complicate things, you're not writing an email. No need to say hello, goodbye, or ask permission. Get to the point!

4. Read the message again and check what words you can remove. When you post a tweet do not worry about the limit of characters until you finish writing. If you ran the 140, read again all, try to remove words or phrases that are unnecessary. This works in a high percentage of times. In extreme cases you may want to divide the tweet into two parts. If the two ideas are not connected, wait a few minutes to send another tweet. On the other hand, if you spend the 140 characters, there is no reason to summarize anything.

5.
Begins again. If there is no way to summarize a tweet, erase everything and start over again trying to use other words and a different wording. It's pretty extreme to do this, but it works very well. Sometimes we engage in something and not see clearly how things simple. If the second attempt you can not do better to try a blog.

Deadly bacteria in hot tubs at the Playboy Mansion

County health inspectors in Los Angeles confirmed that the potentially fatal bacteria detected at the Playboy Mansion was in the water of hot tubs. This could have been the cause of massive disease 170 guests who attended a party in February.
At first it was believed that the mass infection was due to a machine to create fog, placed near the pool, which was used during the party at the Playboy Mansion.

But after analyzing water samples in a laboratory in the county, health officials concluded that the bacterium Legionella, which causes a type of pneumonia known as Legionnaire's Disease, was the culprit.

And just so far able to determine that this dangerous bacteria was properly installed in the dozens of hot tubs that are in all the Playboy Mansion.

In the Tudor-style mansion of Hugh Hefner, located in the hills of Beverly Hills, was held on 3 February a fundraiser such as closure of the annual conference DOMAINfest Global. A party attended by hundreds of people who came from 30 countries.

Hefner, concerned about the bacteria because they home in June

One day after the event, dozens of guests reported having symptoms that included high fever, breathing problems and severe headaches. Most had symptoms of pneumonia, and three of them tested positive for the H1N1 flu tests.

Overall, health officials reported 170 cases of sick guests, all with similar symptoms.

Now, it is good time for the infamous Playboy Mansion copper since it Hugh Hefner, 84, owner of the Playboy empire, said that in June will marry the bunny Crystal Harris, 24, in the very mansion , at a party that will bring together more than 1,000 guests.

"This is the year of the rabbit in the Chinese calendar, so the party will have more bunnies than ever," Hefner joked.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, for its acronym in English), suggest that healthy people recover quickly from the type of pneumonia called Legionnaires' disease through treatment with antibiotics.

However, if you have preexisting health conditions can cause death. Between 8,000 and 18,000 people need to be hospitalized each year in the country infected with this bacteria.

Explains the Medical Center of the University of Maryland, is an acute respiratory infection caused by the bacterium Legionella.

This bacterium usually occurs in water supply systems and can survive in hot, humid and air conditioning large buildings such as hospitals ... or mansions.

Has not demonstrated that there is the spread of bacteria from one person to another.

Although the disease has been reported in children, most infections occur in middle age or elderly.

The disease took its name when a particular group of people attending a convention in Philadelphia in 1976 were infected with the bacteria.

Tips for maintaining the air conditioning in your car

Before starting it is necessary to clarify that the maintenance of your air conditioning needs to be done by an expert as the operating system is complex and consists of several components that require some skill such as a condenser, a compressor, refrigerant gases among other things. The tips below will give you is to give better care and help to prolong life:
Depending on the application, so there is no universal rule, if the air conditioning is not working properly, that is not cool as it should, chances are that the thermostat is not working so I have to replace it.
After a day-long use in some occasions you will notice that the air conditioning on the floor can leave watermarks. Do not worry this is normal since due to vapor condensation is formed and it falls to the ground by a previously designated tube.
When starting your car for the first time in the day remember to take off the air conditioning. If you do the lighting system when you need more power which will affect battery life by decreasing their time.
If you're driving and want to use the air conditioner, do it always with the windows closed because if you do not consume more gasoline. Also never use to its full potential unless the outside temperature exceeds 40 ° C.
If you are not a regular user of the air conditioning is always recommended that you try at least once a year in order to check if proper cooling and avoid damaging other parts of it such as the compressor.
Performs preventive maintenance that the manufacturer tells you the user manual in order to maintain the warranty and have no surprises when you need to use air conditioning.
If you get to replace the coolant in your air conditioner uses the so-called R-134 is regulated by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) in USA and is used by automakers as it does not harm the ozone layer.

Newborns can learn fast!

A new European research reveals that infants are able to identify as early as four months, some foreign language grammar rules. The study, published in the journal PLoS ONE, greatly improves the understanding of language learning in infants.

Children pick up languages at a speed and apparent ease with which a jaw-dropping both their parents and researchers. Studies with infants suggest that even infants are able to differentiate the various phonemes of the syllables. In addition, babies born to very young children seem able to recognize relationships between adjacent syllables tend to occur together.

However, often there are elements that are often linked grammatically but do not appear together in a phrase, for example, in the phrase "is singing", the word "is" is separated from the ending "-ing" the root "to sing ".

"Learning these nonadjacent dependencies is much more difficult than learning to adjacent units," write the researchers.

In fact, previous studies indicated the possibility that children do not understand this kind of rules until the age of 17 or 18 months.

"It seemed too late," said Professor Angela Friederici, Director, Department of Neuropsychology at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Germany.

ITALIAN AND GERMAN

In this study, Professor Friederici and colleagues sought to determine whether infants of four months could identify these units are not adjacent.

Chose the age of four months because studies suggest that babies of that age already had some phonological discrimination abilities and some degree of verbal memory.

The researchers began teaching German babies four months some basics of Italian.

In just over three minutes, the infants heard sentences in Italian containing two simple constructions. One type of sentence construction including "sta X-ing" '(as is X-ing "), an example of such a sentence is" [il fratello] his singing, "which means" [the brother] is singing ".

The second type of sentence construction including "può X-are" '(such as "may X"), in this case, we can mention the example "[The sorella] può cantare" which means "[the sister] can sing" .

After listening to Italian phrases of this kind, properly trained for three minutes, the children underwent a brief trial, during which he listened to both correct and incorrect sentences. Incorrect phrases mixed constructions, forming phrases like "the singing può sorella" ("The sister can sing") or "il fratello sta sing" ("the brother is singing").

In total, the children went through four phases of learning during which they heard a total of 256 correct sentences, the total learning time was just over 13 minutes.

During the experiment, we measured the brain activity of babies. In the early stages of testing, only perceived differences in the pattern of activity recorded when the babies heard Italian phrases wrong.

However, in the fourth phase of testing, there were different patterns of activity indicating that the children had learned that "sta" should go with "-ing" and "può" with "-are."

"Current data show that children of four months can identify dependencies between adjacent elements in sentences after a brief exposure to a native language is not natural," the researchers conclude.

"The emergence of sensitivity to the grammatical regularities indicates that children identified dependencies between the two pairs of adjacent elements (ie, auxiliary verbs and verb suffixes for) the correct sentences they had heard during the training phase ".

"Clearly, the children of this age do not detect errors related to the content," says Professor Friederici. "Long before they understand the meaning, and generalize regularities babies recognize the sound of language."

According to investigators, the patterns of brain activity of German babies four months when exposed to errors were more like the masters of Italian-speaking adults. Native German speakers who were studying Italian as a second language did not respond the same way.

According to the researchers, this "suggests that learning can natively limited to certain.

The most dangerous golf course there is

If you are someone who thinks golf is a sport too boring, then you should go to Australia, particularly at Carbrook Golf Club in Queensland. In this area the water trap is real sharks. No joke. Here's the proof. Sharks were a myth for years, but as you can see in the video are real, there are up to ten feet long and it seems they reached the field after a flood in the 90's.

The sharks are fed to chickens, which is good because at least they do not develop an appetite for meat player.

So it is proved that a golf course things can go worse than what happened to Rory McIlroy last weekend. Personally I like golf but not where there are sharks:)

Murp-Don't Brush My Hair in Knots

The bands of brothers are not new, just ask for "Hanson, Donny & Marie and the Bee Gees"- but rarely emerge at an early age.

The band of "metals", which calls itself MURP has sparked the curiosity of the blogosphere thanks to his passionate interpretation of the original track ("Do not Brush My Hair in Knots"), who sings the girl of 3 years.

Childhood trauma to resist how you untangle knotted hair has been immortalized in punk rock. The singer also has a small acoustic song on YouTube entitled "Everything is beautiful" ("Everything is Pretty"). Because versatility is very important in a musician.

We hope that the star should not divorce his drummer brother, who has been taking lessons to launch a solo career.

The brothers MURP, free of rivalries make this explosive genre look adorable.
Maybe this little girl might be the reincarnation or the succesor of Janis joplin from the 70s?

Shakira lost her ring

Shakira is already part of the long list of robberies in Mexico. So as you read! During his concert in Monterrey, on 8 April, a ring was stolen from the hand of the Colombian.

I tell the scene: Was the Barranquilla singing as he greeted his fans, when suddenly one of his followers took his hand and BOOM! Express theft ring.

We can see in the video that follows, Shakira, at the time of the robbery, he turns to see the hand-faced pot as saying: "'On ta'?".
Is an embarrasing situation. We only hope that this ring has not been of great value. Of the lesser evil right?

Vision 3D: Nvidia releases 3D streaming technology

Regarding the increasing presence of 3D content in different media and devices, Nvidia does not walk with tiny punches or excessive, and at a conference held at NAB 2011, the company announced that it has decided to release its technology 3D video playback for free. This is just the limitations on the dissemination of three-dimensional content via streaming web sites for computers with Nvidia compatible devices.

The 3D playback technology has surprises almost every day, where for one reason or another jump boards indicating different applications, experiments and devices that are charged to shoulder the use of graphs in three dimensions, with the weight of software and hardware needed that it implies and spending to make access to them. Nvidia keeps close on this evolution in playing content, and since the early days when they talked about their technology to support stereoscopic 3D graphics today there have been developments both inside and outside the company and its products, and demonstration of its commitment to these changes is that it has released a few hours ago a technology platform to bring playback via streaming 3D content using just a plug in for Microsoft Media Player Platform Framework.

3D Vision aims to put in the hands of developers to combine treatments fine stereo playback with support for 3D glasses and the sharp escalation of streaming content on the web. It is proposed that this permissiveness that the diffusion and release provided by this technology for better tools and expand the possibilities of creating web application developers as well as the sale of devices that support playback. In presenting the same at NAB 2011, the heads of Microsoft agreed to this projection when said that "Microsoft is delighted to work with Nvidia to offer interesting features and capabilities in order to help developers build the new Age of websites powered by Microsoft Media Platform "Of course, such optimism must be tested both in the real usefulness of the technology for web developers and the always ambiguous acceptance.

Is this a decade that all PC users use sunglasses?

The new ability to embed 3D content in the code of web sites and via streaming play encourages a new marketing model that remains to be seen how it operates, especially the sides that create or use Silverlight and conflicts may be with the playback of protected content (although it provided support to address especially those with DRM). But as the images can be viewed on the Nvidia site tests and practical guidelines for implementation that are coming from now, 3D Vision unstoppable seems to be heading to position itself as an undisputed standard. For now have to wait and see what developers come across in the coming weeks.

Kinect controlled helicopter

And we still have room for one more. We have seen an amazing amount of hacks Kinect in recent months, but until the people of Redmond does not step on the accelerator with determination and release titles that go beyond casual play, the best motion control as found in those projects will continue conducted by universities, engineers and enthusiasts alike. On this occasion, nothing less than a Drone AR Parrot, one of the best quadricopter market, controlled by someone who is "passing plane" with arms outstretched.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have another hack Kinect more to share here. We've seen robots controlled Kinect, Kinect simulated instruments, music videos made with Kinect, capture 3D motion capture, augmented reality, invisible, adult games, multiple interfaces, video ... and the list goes on. What controls the Kinect today is not exactly a robot, but not the first time we see him cross swords with the radio-controlled model aircraft. Last December saw the Kinect had been turned into a kind of radar for quadricopter could adapt its flight path dynamically. Today, there is no radar itself, but the Kinect is associated with a quadricopter, this time as a control.
The vehicle is a Parrot AR Drone, which can be controlled with an iPhone or IPAD, and has a flight range of fifteen minutes. The subject of the video does not believe a bird or under the influence of any substance, but is trying to control the quadricopter with their arms, thanks to Kinect detection capabilities. The project is a work of Zickel Engineering, and was presented in the last Kinnernet 2011. The movements do not seem at all related to the reaction of the Parrot in some points, but appears to be more a matter of training of limitations in the interface.

Anyway, it would be more reasonable than the gestures were simplified. Although we have ever tried to be a plane in our childhood, user resistance to having the arms extended is probably much less than the battery of Parrot. On the other hand, something like this opens the door to an interesting way to play outdoors, with the user trying to pass the quadricopter by an obstacle course, hoops and barriers. And we insist the idea of "outdoor", because almost half a kilo moving up to 18 miles per hour is not good for any head at the scene at the possibility of an impact.

How to escape Armageddon

As the bullfighter, people for all. And he sure came up short. For example, there Panolis who are so convinced that the world will end in December 2012, and not die, sure to be angry. I hope you be of comfort to know several thousand different predictions about the end of the world and most of the time were wrong. It is important not to lose hope and trust that this may be true.

At this point, explain what the Mayan calendar (the basis of this madness) seems to me excessive cruelty to readers. Suffice it to say they had a cyclical conception of time, unlike ours, which is linear. So your calendars 'just' and start again, but only their calendars. In fact, its demise as a society has no bearing as his way of measuring time. The desk calendars are also finished and no one dies, just so that when the battery runs a mobile does not make people deaf.

In recent times, the discourse about the end of the world has changed. Years ago, the official dogma was to see the movie '2012 'by Roland Emmerich was almost a documentary. Now, when it was doom and gloom most extreme value for money, which is said to be a year of great change 'based on' and 'level' we're going to freak out. But like all bad things last forever, once past the December 21, 2012 have thought no one will recognize the fake Mayan prophecy. Of course, there will have the newspaper to remind his art.

But as we all can make mistakes, you better be prepared. And what better way to get in touch with the American company Escape Earth 2012, a token amount (24.5 dollars, some sad 17 euros) offers the possibility of escaping to a planet similar to Earth and start a new life. Low cost salvation: so that then we complain about the capitalist system.

It's simple. Anyone who wants to be saved buying your ticket and, just before the end of the world in 2012, will climb aboard the USS Ark 2012 to escape a planet similar to Earth but BRAND NEW. The choice can also take your pet (for another 17 euros). Also, if you're a gourmet, you can opt for a stretch and Superluminal rate (44.99 dollars, 31 euros) to enjoy a deluxe room (with flat screen and minibar) and access to public areas of the ship.

Luckily, those responsible for this initiative have everything planned. Thus, the price includes an outer passport (for not going through space in wetback plan) and a guidebook with answers to all questions one can do while preparing his new life. At the moment, according to the email I have sent my partner Angeloti, there are more than hundred people who have gone through box. And it seems that everything is growing.

And I ask, could it be that this was a scam and someone wants to take advantage of the general credulity? Obviously not. The project has all the guarantees. If the end of the world occurs on that date, the company agrees to move to another planet to all customers or to refund the full amount. And for the record that says it well, no fine print so there is no doubt. In other words, ensure that it pays the world survive the end of 2012. That is serious and the rest is nonsense.

A fraud? Impossible! Having paid (check, pay-pal, welcome to transfer ... chrome Coyote) the person receives mail your ticket (well, ship), intergalactic passport rule (non-transferable, for security reasons) and his guidance and pass to the VIP area of the ship if you have hired the service of 'Superluminal'. It can not, say some. Yes, folks, this is what I come by just like you to address.

Facebook open servers

With the need to serve daily more than 600 million users, it is logical to assume that the infrastructure of Facebook is truly impressive. Servers, data centers, redundancy and cooling systems, everything must be planned and implemented carefully. At the same time, the need to expand capacity leads to higher consumption of energy, but that too has been taken into account. If you want to know how servers are Facebook, and most should not asking you, as well as design specifications have been declared open, under the "Open Compute."

We know very well who are the giants of the Web today, but in general, not much is known about how computer operating level. In the case of Google, we have seen some details on the Googleplex, and also is a known fact that creates its own hardware for their servers, but nothing more. After all, no titan of information and communications technology has a habit of sharing secrets. But in an era where information sharing is the rule rather than the exception, something has decided to show the world how they are made systems that keep it standing. That something is nothing more than Facebook, through the Open Compute project.

This project began just over a year, with a huge goal: Build the infrastructure more efficiently with the least possible cost. At first it seems a contradiction, because the more drastic needs to be a reduction in energy consumption, more investment in time and money often sue. Without emabrgo, the results are obvious to all, literally, and that anyone interested can download the specifications of these servers (hardware are based on Intel or AMD), and CAD designs for each component. Taken into account details at different scales, from the chassis to a server (without screws, can be assembled in minutes) to the configuration to use cooling data center servers.

One of the reasons why Facebook has decided to open these designs is, of course, to receive data and user feedback. And the other reason is so that developers who start a Web-wide project to leverage the work that Facebook has done so far. The numbers are very interesting: In comparison with average server, the Facebook design is 38 percent more efficient, and 24 percent cheaper. From replace internal speakers and LED lights, to virtually eliminate plastic and aesthetic reduce to a minimum, the Open Compute servers unattractive features in the visual, but extraordinary in functional, and much greener than we are accustomed to see.
